She was identified as having bone cancer when Elona Karafin was a youngster. She spent two years in now and treatments, at age 23, she is not unhappy to report that she is not unhealthy.

But being a cancer survivor is eternally baked into her mind.

“I ‘d cancer when I was 10, ” she says. “Now I understand, folks around me, folks my age or individuals old, most people are coping with something that stops them from doing the things they would like to do.”

She says the experience taught her, “I don’t need to waste away my youth and that I do not need others to waste away their youth and I do not need them to do it because folks believe they do not have enough money or enough time.”

And so, every couple of weeks, Karafin, who lives in Ny, travels to some faraway destination like Bali or Poland or Paris or Portugal on a long weekend, perhaps three days, spending less than $1,000 on the complete excursion including airfare, hotel, amusement — everything.

She will zip across the US if she is not traveling worldwide. Its a straight weekend jaunt, for domestic trips, Friday night she says.

She keeps details of her excursions. what she saw, how she spent her time plus records it all on her website, “Elona The Explorer.”

She is out to show to everybody who would like to travel the world (or realize some of these dreams): “you’ve time. Time can be made by you. Even the most active people on earth, they’ve time,” she says. “That is the reason why I focus so much on weekend excursions.”

And, she is not alone rich. She works as a financial analyst in a big e-commerce postage and supply business. “I work a fulltime occupation and I am fresh out of school, therefore I’m not just making the big bucks,” she laughs.

Some of her greatest excursions:

  • A three-day jaunt to Bali. “It was a 26-hour flight, I had been in Bali for 3 nights. not even a complete four days,” she says.
  • She is done Dubai in 4 days.
  • And she went for 8 hours to Poland. “I surprised my best friend for her birthday, I flew out on a Saturday.”
  • She collared Amsterdam in 2 days. “There is an entire record of stuff it is possible to get done in two days.”

In addition to working and traveling, she also runs her very own charity called that uses social media and crowdfunding to raise money for underprivileged children who’ve cancer.

So she likely falls into the “most active people in the world” pail. She is actually pleased with the charity, incidentally. “So far, in three years I raised over $115,000 in contributions for individual families in the United States and abroad,” she tells us.

As a traveler, it will help that she lives in Ny, because less time is taken by flying to European destinations, but she says anyone can do exotic traveling on the weekends, wherever they live.

Switch off the “cookies” in your browser before using traveling websites (or clear them before you return). Many travel websites use cookies to remember you and show you the same fares, even though they were not low. “They suppose that is that which you are prepared to pay,” Karafin says.

Be flexible on where you will go. “I use sites that let me set ‘everywhere’ as an objective, and New York as my source,” she says. Where ever the deals take her she goes.
